Our History

Puget Sound Benefit Services was founded almost 30 years ago by John Frankland. As founder and benefits broker, John sought to serve the local healthcare market a little differently. With his expertise and creativity, he knew he could deliver benefits that made more sense for his clients.

Puget Sound Benefit Services recently merged with Capital Benefit Group in 2024. As part of the acquisition, Puget Sound Benefits now pertains to the larger Capital Benefit Group family of companies and has increased capacity & resources to serve customers. All while maintaining the same staff, structure, and service. Headquartered in Bellevue, they cover the entire Puget Sound and beyond.

John Frankland

President

John Frankland has over 40 years of experience in the group insurance industry. He is a native of Seattle, Washington, and graduated with a BA in Economics from the University of Washington. John began his group insurance career with a large insurance company out of Maine, in their Baltimore/Washington DC office, from 1979 through 1984. In late 1984, John returned to Seattle and joined a well-known Midwestern life insurance company, and helped start Puget Sound Benefit Services. John’s philosophy: “Our approach with our clients is to help explain their risks, listen to their needs and goals, and tailor a plan that fits their budget. Our responsibility does not end at the sale. We continue to provide personal service to our clients, by providing them a dedicated Account Manager that works with them, and their employees, to provide the best experience possible. We value the personal touch and want our clients to know that we are there to help them.”

Janet Vinson

Senior Account Manager

Janet joined the team in 2013. She earned her valuable work experience while working on the insurance carrier side, in various departments such as Provider Relations and Medical Management. She even worked in HR before that and knows the need for good benefits for employers. Janet also serves as an excellent resource and advocate for our clients and their employees when administrative and/or claim issues arise. Living in Bellingham has given her the opportunity to appreciate a community that supports local businesses. Janet enjoys supporting the local shops and exploring the beautiful outdoors. And, she is proud to call this her hometown. Janet is a licensed Life and Health Insurance Agent in Washington State.

Senior Account Manager

JonnaLyhn began working for Puget Sound Benefits in January of 2000. JonnaLyhn serves as an excellent resource and advocate for our clients and their employees when administrative and/or claim issues arise. JonnaLyhn says: “I think we (Puget Sound Benefits) have a unique customer service platform because our dedicated Account Managers are allowed to maintain their client relationships. This allows us to better serve clients and their employees as we work as a team to support each other and our clients.” When not at work, JonnaLyhn enjoys being a parent, costume designer, and medieval/historical re-enactor. She may often be found teaching at workshops or volunteering in costume at various events around the West Coast. JonnaLyhn is a licensed Life and Health Insurance Agent in Washington State.

Community Involvement

Making a difference for the community around us.

Food Lifeline Photo.png
Food Lifeline

As part of the Capital Benefit Group family, Puget Sound Benefit Services (PSB) participates in the "Food Frenzy" fundraiser with Food Lifeline. Food Frenzy specifically focuses on feeding families during the summer months when many children are not receiving the meals they normally would during school. It is a high-need time and PSB has done it's part to be a cause for good, raising thousands of dollars each year and providing nourishing meals to those in need.

In addition, PSB has often volunteered employee time at Food Lifeline warehouses to help sort, box, and prep food deliveries.

Rampathon

As part of the Capital Benefit Group (CBG) Family, Puget Sound Benefit Services (PSB) is proud to support the MBA Rampathon, an inspiring initiative led by the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties. The service event involves building ramps for individuals in need, enhancing accessibility and improving lives within the community.

The MBA pairs Capital Benefit Group up in teams with skilled builders and other volunteers to help construct safe and reliable ramps that enable greater independence for those with mobility challenges. Last year the ramp that CBG helped build in Mountlake Terrace allowed a disabled woman to leave her house for the first time in over 9 months. Building a better community, one ramp at a time.

Wellspring Family Service

As part of Capital Benefit Group (CBG), Puget Sound Benefit Services (PSB) is deeply committed to supporting Wellspring Family Services and their mission to end family homelessness. The CBG team has actively engaged to provide resources and support families in need. By partnering with Wellspring, CBG has been able to donate time, service, and dollars toward creating safe and stable housing solutions to those facing trouble.

An especially great opportunity has been to serve at the Family Store, organizing clothing, packing essentials, and prepping orders for families in need. CBG strives to make a meaningful impact by helping build stronger, more resilient, and more compassionate communities.
